Mars Dust Counter (MDC) is a light-weight impact-ionization type dust detector, which determines mass and velosity of a particle. The primary purpose of MDC is to measure dust particles around Mars and reveal the distribution of the predicted Martian ring or torus of dust particles from Phobos an d Deimos. MDC can also measure other particles such as interplanetary dust, and other space debris a round the Earth.
